Automatic Roller Conveyor Shot Blasting Machine for Steel Plate Surface Preparation

Steel Plate Shot Blasting Machine is an automatic roller conveyor shot blasting system designed for continuous surface preparation of steel plates, steel sheets, structural steel profiles and fabricated steel components.

The machine uses high-efficiency blast wheels to throw Steel Shots onto the workpiece surface at high speed, removing mill scale, rust, welding slag and surface contaminants before painting, coating, welding or further fabrication.

What Is a Steel Plate Shot Blasting Machine?

A steel plate shot blasting machine is a continuous pass-through blasting system in which steel plates travel through a closed blasting chamber on a powered roller conveyor.

Multiple blast wheels are positioned above and/or below the conveyor to provide continuous abrasive impact on the workpiece. After blasting, residual steel shots are removed by a brush and air blow-off system, while used abrasive is collected, separated and recycled.

The basic process is:

Loading → Roller Conveyor → Shot Blasting → Abrasive Recovery → Brush & Air Cleaning → Unloading

Key Features

1. Continuous Roller Conveyor

2. High-Efficiency Blast Wheels

3. Automatic Abrasive Recovery

4. Brush and Air Blow-Off System

5. Dust Collection System

6. PLC Automatic Control

What Can It Remove?

The steel plate shot blasting machine is mainly used to remove:

● Mill scale ● Rust ● Oxide scale ● Welding slag ● Surface contaminants ● Loose old coatings

It also creates a controlled surface profile that improves the adhesion of subsequent protective coatings.

Depending on the machine configuration, abrasive selection and operating conditions, steel plates can be prepared to Sa 2.5 or other specified surface-cleanliness requirements.

Steel Plate Blasting Machine Applications

Our steel plate shot blasting machines can be used in industries including:

● Steel Structure Fabrication ● Shipbuilding ● Bridge Construction ● Pressure Vessel Manufacturing ● Oil & Gas Equipment ● Heavy Machinery ● Steel Service Centers

How to Select a Steel Plate Shot Blasting Machine?

Before we recommend a machine, please provide:

1. Steel Plate Size

● Max/mini width ● Max/mini thickness ● Max/mini length

2. Production Requirement

For example:

● Tons per hour ● Square meters per hour ● Number of plates per shift ● Required conveyor speed

3. Surface Condition

Please tell us whether the plates have:

● Light rust ● Heavy rust ● Mill scale ● Welding slag ● Existing paint ● Mixed surface contamination

4. Required Surface Finish

● Sa 2 ● Sa 2.5 ● Sa 3 ● Specific surface roughness

5. Subsequent Process

Is the blasted plate going to:

● Painting ● Welding ● Cutting ● Galvanizing ● Fabrication ● Storage

These details allow us to select the appropriate blast wheel configuration, conveyor speed, abrasive circulation capacity and dust collection system.

Why Use Roller Conveyor Shot Blasting?

Compared with manual abrasive blasting, an automatic roller conveyor system provides:

●  Continuous production

Steel plates move through the machine without repeated manual positioning.

●  More consistent blasting

Multiple blast wheels provide controlled abrasive coverage.

●  Lower manual handling

Loading, conveying, cleaning and unloading can be automated.

●  Automatic abrasive recycling

Steel shots are collected, separated and returned to the blasting system.

●  Easy integration

The machine can be connected with painting, drying, cutting and other steel fabrication processes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is a steel plate shot blasting machine used for?

A1: It is mainly used to remove rust, mill scale, oxide scale and other surface contaminants from steel plates and profiles before painting, coating, welding or fabrication.

Q2: Can it achieve Sa 2.5?

A2: Yes. With the appropriate blast wheel configuration, abrasive, conveyor speed and operating conditions, the system can be designed to achieve Sa 2.5 surface cleanliness. The actual result should be confirmed through process testing and the customer's specified standard.

Q3: Can the machine blast both sides of a steel plate?

A3: Yes. A suitable configuration can use blast wheels positioned above and below the roller conveyor to treat the upper and lower surfaces during one continuous pass.

Q4: Can it be connected to a painting line?

A4: Yes. The shot blasting machine can be integrated with automatic painting and drying equipment to create a complete steel plate preservation line.

Q5: What blasting abrasives are used?

A5: Common abrasive options include S390/S330 steel shots and GP25/GP40 steel grits. The abrasive type and size should be selected according to the steel plate condition, required surface profile and blasting equipment.

Q6: Is the machine customized?

A6: Yes. The effective cleaning width, conveyor length, blast wheel quantity, conveyor speed, dust collector and other components can be engineered according to the customer's requirements.

Q7: How much does a steel plate shot blasting machine cost?

A7: There is no single standard price. The cost depends mainly on the working width, plate thickness, production capacity, number of blast wheels, dust collector, automation level and whether painting/drying systems are included.

For an accurate quotation, send us your plate width × thickness × length, required production capacity.
